COMANCHE — Early Longhorn Jake Angerstein captured the District 7-3A boys golf championship, while Lady Horn Lauren Piper earned a regional berth as the 36-hole event concluded Friday at PAR Country Club. The Region I-3A tournament will be held April 11-14 at Shady Oaks Golf Course in Baird, with the boys competing the first two days followed by the girls.
Angerstein posted an opening round 75 on March 24 at The Hideout and finished with a 72 Friday for a 147 composite score — eight shots clear of runner up Bronte Hermesmeyer of Comanche (79-76=155).
Piper carded a first-round 108 followed by a closing 100 for a 208 total, which trailed only Comanche’s Madison Gore (91-85=176) among golfers on non-qualifying teams.
The Longhorns finished fourth as a team with a 792 total, which trailed district champion Brady (692), runner-up Coleman (763) and Comanche (779).
Joining Angerstein on the Longhorns squad were Jason Thompson (115-90=205), Alex Hamilton (114-106=220), Darshan Bhatka (116-104=220) and Brayden Fry (130-125=255). Haven Aaron (159-156=315) competed as a medalist for Early.
The Lady Horns also came in fourth as a team with a 915 score, which left them behind 7-3A champion Brady (728), runner-up Coleman (850) and third-place Comanche (897).
Along with Piper, the Lady Horns roster consisted of Payton Hackney (114-108=222), Averey Holden (120-105=225) and Cailen Jenkins (137-123=260).
The Bangs Dragons came in sixth as a team with an 842 two-round total. Team members included Chad Taylor (98-99=197), Zachary Allen (110-98=208), Jack Tomme (112-109=221), Tyler Smith (108-114=222) and Taylor McDonald (106-119=225).
Competing as medalists for the Dragons were Lawtin Sherwood-Millan (124-106=230), Matthew Rudd (133-124=257) and Michael Francois (132-129=261).
Kaily Wolf (142-118=260) also competed as a medalist for the Bangs Lady Dragons.
