Summer setbacks are nothing new regarding academics and the phenomenon has been researched by educators since the beginning of time. On average, student achievement can decline over the summer by up to a third of a prior year’s learning gains. Loss is usually greater in mathematics than reading, and higher grade leveled students are more noticeably affected than younger learners. The summer slide can be measured in both social skills and classroom discipline, in addition to academics.
State sales tax revenue totaled $3.7 Billion in May
(AUSTIN) — Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar today said state sales tax revenue totaled $3.69 billion in May, 8.6 percent more than in May 2021. Annual revenue growth of 8.6 percent suggests modest growth in underlying taxable economic activity, in view of the current inflationary environment with Consumer Price Index inflation at 8.3 percent in April.
Cross Plains to host Robert E. Howard Days
Friday, June 10 and Saturday, June 11 will find well over 100 out-of-town guests coming to visit Cross Plains to soak up two days of all things Howard for Robert E. Howard Days. Headquartered at the REH Museum at 625 West Highway 36, the annual two day conference will include panel discussions, tours of the museum and the surrounding areas, a special postal cancellation, an award ceremony, and a silent auction of Howard related items. A few vendors will also be selling Howard related publications on the museum grounds. All of these events are free of charge to the public.
