NEW ORLEANS – Seventeen years after Hurricane Katrina flooded New Orleans, the Army Corps of Engineers has completed an extensive system of floodgates, strengthened levees and other protections. The 130-mile ring is designed to hold out storm surge of about 30 feet around New Orleans and its suburbs in three parishes.

MEXICO CITY – Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said Friday he wants to change the name of a notorious drug-producing area known as “the Golden Triangle” to “The Triangle of Good, Hard-Working People.”

Owned by Danielle and Logan Stone, the business has created a vibe all its own, from their neon “Just Chill” sign, portraits of some well-known musicians to one-of-a-kind signature libations crafted by two-time Best of Brown County Bartender Winner Barbie Chapman. The business celebrated its one-year anniversary with special cocktails and live music by the Mike Stanley Band. Stone’s Grove also introduced snack options on specialty nights. Live music and karaoke nights have added to the entertainment scene in Downtown Brownwood. Police: 3 wounded in shooting in Chicago neighborhood CHICAGO – Three people were shot and wounded on Friday in Chicago, authorities said. The Chicago Police Department said a man was sitting in a parked car with a woman standing by his driver side window when both were struck with gunfire in South Austin, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

District Attorney Micheal Murray's office reported Miguel Angel Claudio was convicted in 35th Judicial District Court of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and sentenced to 12 years in prison. Claudio plead guilty to the court and filed an application for deferred adjudication probation.
