James Odie (J.O.) Thompson

James Odie (J.O.) Thompson passed away on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at home with his wife LuCretia by his side. He was born September 23 in Temple, TX. He worked for the railroad for 42 years before retiring from BNSF in 2004. He had a zest for life and loved traveling and meeting new people. They lived in Brownwood, TX for 30 years before moving to Temple 3 years ago because of his health. His parents, Billie Lou Carberry and Odie Wood Thompson, brother, K.L. Thompson, sister, & Martha Lou Messiner and step mother Lois Fulton preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, LuCretia, 3 sons, Dalton McCombs of Arizona, Jim Thompson and wife Dayna of Johnson City, Jason Thompson and wife Kassy of Pflugerville. Nine grandchildren, Madalyn, Alexis, Matthew, Karlen, Kenna, Covin, Kennedy, Austin, and Rylin and one sister, Gaye Lynn Butler and husband, Roger. Also, many nieces and nephews. There will be a memorial service at Jenkins Springs Cemetery in Early, Tx at 11 am Saturday, May 21, 2022. His sister-in-law, Mary Birmingham will have a memorial service at that time also as she passed away on April 18, 2022.

Rena Lee Pittman

LONGVIEW - Rena Lee Pittman, age 81, passed away on April 29, 2022, peacefully and surrounded by her family. She was a beautiful soul who spread joy and happiness wherever she went. On August 05, 1940, Rena was born to parents Cora Lee and Henry Anderson in Brownwood, TX. For over 66 years, Rena was married to her charming husband, Weldon Pittman Sr. Together, they built a wonderful life and raised two beloved sons, Henry and Weldon Jr. Her home was always full of laughter, tea, and the Grand Ole Opry. She was a woman of simple pleasures who loved traveling with her family, sharing stories of her misadventures, cooking, and sewing. Rena inspired others with her commitment to service throughout her community. As a devout Christian, Rena attended Greggton First Baptist Church. Her quick wit always made others laugh, and she was as compassionate as she was caring. For nearly 50 years, she served as an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star with the Pine Tree Chapter #1090, including two terms as Worthy Matron. Beyond all else, Rena will be remembered for her courage and indomitable spirit. She was a loving wife, cherished mother, and faithful friend. Rena is predeceased by her mother, Cora; her father, Henry Anderson; her brother, William Todd Anderson; and her son, Henry Pittman. She is survived by her husband, Weldon Sr.; her son, Weldon Jr.; and two grandchildren, Alexandria and Park. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous friends. A memorial service will be held at Pine Tree Masonic Lodge #1396 in Longview, TX, on Saturday, May 21, 2022, from 2 pm-4 pm. Ellis Donald Weathermon

Ellis Donald Weathermon passed away on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, to rejoin his loving wife, Wanda, who he has deeply missed for 28 months. He was born August 13, 1937, to Ellis McClain Weathermon and Gracie Alice (Bennie) Weathermon in Brownwood, Texas. He graduated in 1957 from Brownwood High School and went to work for Southwestern Telephone Co. On a blind date, he met Wanda June Stephens and they married on August 2, 1959. Ellis was in the National Guard for 14 years, while working for Southwestern Telephone Co. He transferred from Brownwood to Coleman, and then to Junction. In 1970, he transferred to Comanche, where it later changed to General Telephone (GTE), then Verizon. He retired after 32 years.

BROWNWOOD - Judy Lee Hinesly, age 74, of Brownwood, TX. passed away Monday, May 9, 2022, in Andrews, TX. Family and Friends will gather to celebrate her life at 2:00PM on Friday, May 13, 2022, at McNett Funeral Home Chapel in Andrews, Texas with Pastor Leslie Boone, officiating. Interment will follow at the Andrews North Cemetery. Viewing and Visitation will be held Thursday May 12, 2022, from 5:00PM - 8:00PM at McNett Funeral Home Chapel. Arrangements are under the personal care of McNett Funeral Home. Judy was born January 30, 1948, in Brownwood, Texas, to George Washington Ford Jr. and Dorothy Lee “Shell”. Judy was and extremely hard-working women. She loved to go to garage sales or“treasure hunting”as she would call it. She was a great cook and always made sure everyone was fed. Her greatest love were her grandbabies. Judy was a proud Veteran of the United States Army, where she served in the Special Services. She was an amazing mother, grandmother, sister and friend and will be dearly missed. She is survived by her daughter: Cynthia Sullens and husband Olen of Andrews, TX.; sisters: Brenda Claxton and husband Mike of Big Springs, TX.; and Shirley Allen and husband Don of Bedford, TX.; brother-in-law: Howard James of Brownwood, TX.; grandchildren: Cody Joe, and Bridgette Sullens; great-grandchildren: Cody Moore, Roland Sullens Lopez, Morris Sullens Lopez, and Adan Sullens Lopez,; nieces: Deborah Claxton of Big Springs, TX.; Becky Reinhardt and husband Randy of Uvalde, TX.; Tammy James of Brownwood, TX.; and Stephanie Allen of Fort Worth, TX.; nephews: Roy Abney and wife Sue of Jacksonville, FL.; Scotty Browning and wife Pam of Hardin, IL.; Rodney James and wife Sherry of Bangs, TX.; and Don Allen and wife Tracy of Rockwall, TX.; and numerous great nieces and nephews. Judy is preceded in death by her parents: George and Dorothy Ford; 2 sisters: Rebecca Cardinal and Peggy James; and 2 nephews: Buddy Ray Claxton and Howard “Howie” James.

VICTORIA - Charlene Joy Cumba, age 86, passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2022. Funeral services were held Saturday, May 7, 2022 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Victoria, Texas. Burial will be held Monday, May 9, 2022 at 2pm at Eastlawn Memorial Park in Early, Texas. Serving as pallbearers are Shannan Stockton, Gerard Stockton, Chad Cumba, Craig Cumba, Nicholas Yendrey and Cody Cumba. Charlene was born August 7, 1935 in Seagraves, Texas to the late Alma Naoma Reid Hefner and James Columbus Hefner, Sr. She graduated from Cross Plains High School. She married James Raymond Cumba on April 20, 1954. She was a secretary for Crockett Junior High for 20 years. She lived in Port Lavaca for 30 years. She was a founding member of Alamo Heights Baptist Church. She retired and moved to Brownwood, Texas. She was an amazing mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and was loved by everyone she knew. Charlene is survived by her son, Glenn Cumba (Denise); daughter, Dena Buchhorn (Michael); sister, Jackie Hefner; 5 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and 7 step-great-grandchildren. Charlene was preceded in death by her husband, James Raymond Cumba; father, James Columbus Hefner, Sr.; mother, Alma Naoma Reid Hefner; sisters, Olga Witt, Wanda Defour, Donna Wagner and Wilsie Balkum; brothers, Bob Hefner, Wayne Hefner, Gilbert Hefner, James Hefner, Jr. and Larry Hefner.
