Tommie Doris Reid Dewbre

At the age of 99, Tommie Doris Reid Dewbre was welcomed home by her Heavenly Father and the beloved family who passed before her. Tommie was a passionate woman, and as our strong matriarch, she loved and led her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was a caring daughter, sister, aunt, and friend as well. Tommie’s indomitable spirit encouraged her family and friends to persist in the face of hardships. Tommie Reid Dewbre was born in Regency, Texas on December 5, 1922, to Robbie and Joe Reid. Her family soon moved to Brownwood to farm. She graduated from Howard Payne College in 1945 and married Felton Milton Dewbre on May 16, 1945. From 1945 until 1946, they lived in San Diego as Felton served in the United States Navy during World War II. Apart from that short stint in California, Tommie lived her whole life in Texas. When Felton died in 1978, Tommie returned to the world of work. She obtained her real estate license and worked for Banta Insurance and Real Estate for a few years until she and her sister, Ruby Shelton, opened Reid’s Reusables in Early, Texas on the family farm acreage. They became known as “the ladies who wore hats.” They sold antiques, boots, and jeans. That successful business kept them busy until they were in their eighties. We, her family, say “goodbye for now” to this precious woman who taught us about selfless love and devotion, home remedies and scratch cooking, and the finesse of the yard sale negotiation. We confidently claim that you fought the fight, finished the race, and kept the faith (2 Timothy 4:7). The legacy you leave is deep, and we pray we make you proud each and every day. Tommie was preceded in death by her parents, Robbie, and Joe Reid; her husband, Felton Dewbre; her son, Randall Dewbre; her daughter-in-law, Nancy Dewbre; and her sister, Ruby Shelton. She is survived by her daughters, Connie Dewbre and Reida Marr, her grandchildren, Eric McNatt, Zachary Lockwood and his wife, Beth; Rebecca Hardy and
