William E. Morgan

Longtime Gun Barrel City resident William E Morgan Sr passed into the care of his Lord and Savior on August 2nd. Born March 22, 1935 in Gustine, TX to Troy and Ruby Morgan, he attended Brownwood High School through 1953 where he played football and was elected as most handsome in his class. Known to all as Bill, he served in the National Guard, 1955-59, and spent most of his vocational years as an OTR truck driver, interrupted by a nearly two decade period as terminal manager for Alterman Transport Lines in Dallas. His history as a driver included stints with Frozen Food Express, Refrigerated Transport, Younger Bros, Railway Express, Schneider, Bee Trucking, JB Hunt and a few others. He was a member in good standing at 1st Baptist Church, Gun Barrel City. He was preceded in death by his mother and father and his brother Robert. He is survived by his devoted wife of 40 years, Ruth, his son and daughter-in-law William Morgan Jr and Susan, daughter Melanie Todora, grandson Christopher Morgan and wife Hope, granddaughter Gina Mims, great grandsons Zachary and Brady Morgan and Dominic Mims and great granddaughter Francesca Mims. Also survived by his sister Carolyn Cornwell, nieces Yvonne Ulshafer and Dana Morgan, nephews Larry Cornwell Jr and Jeffery-Paul Cornwell, stepson Wayne Hammer and wife Susan, stepson Alan Stanley, stepdaughter Donna Grimes and husband John, stepdaughter Sondra Hays and husband Blake. Visitation will be Sunday August 7, 3-5 p.m. at Anderson-Clayton Funeral Home in Terrell. Memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on August 8 at the Anderson-Clayton Chapel in Terrell, TX followed by graveside service at Restland Memorial Park.
