Hunting the hunters
With the close of whitetail muzzleloader season this past weekend, deer season is officially closed with the exception of some ranches managed by Texas Parks and Wildlife where deer can be hunted through February. It’s now time to do some predator control and reduce the number of coyotes and bobcats. For many years, I thought that only coyotes took a heavy toll of newborn fawns in Texas but I know for a fact that full grown bobcats also kill fawns and occasionally grown deer as well.

Home stand continues Thursday against Ozarks
The Howard Payne Yellow Jackets and Lady Jackets basketball teams continue their longest home stands of the season this week at Brownwood Coliseum. On Thursday, HPU will host the University of Ozarks, with the women’s game scheduled for 5:30 p.m. and the men’s game at 7:30 p.m.

Hinds’ 3-point outburst fuels Lions’ 70-66 win over Graham in 6-4A opener
Thad Hinds was shooting 9% on 3-point goals this season. But on Friday night, the Brownwood guard suddenly exploded for four 3-pointers in the fourth quarter alone to rally the Lions to a 70-66 win over the Graham Steers in the District 6-4A boys’ basketball opener at Warren Gym.
Lions break even at Lubbock tournament
The Brownwood Lions’ soccer team went 1-1-1 in three games Thursday and Friday at the Lubbock tournament. Brownwood beat Snyder 3-1 on Thursday. On Friday, the Lions tied El Paso Riverside 1-1 and lost 3-0 to Lubbock-Cooper.
