Hoops Roundup: Early boys stop Ballinger 60-49 BALLINGER -- John-Stewart Gordon made three 3-point goals and scored 13 points Tuesday night, leading the Early Longhorns to a 60-49 nondistrict boys’ basketball win over the Ballinger Bearcats. Early improved to 7-4 as Jeremy Brown scored 12 points, and teammate Andrew Caten added 11 points.

The Brownwood Lady Lions’ basketball team valiantly battled a much taller Burnet team – until the final seven minutes of a 63-40 Lady Dawgs’ win Monday night at Warren Gym. Burnet outscored Brownwood 26-9 in the final 6:43 to pull away and improve to 10-4 this season.

The Howard Payne men’s basketball team dropped a home conference game 100-89 to McMurry on Saturday at the Brownwood Coliseum. HPU was led by Myles Brown with a season-high 21 points with seven rebounds.

ARLINGTON (AP) — Andrew Heaney and the Rangers finalized their $25 million, two-year contract Friday, the latest move by Texas to upgrade its pitching staff. Heaney went 4-4 with a 3.10 ERA in 16 games (14 starts) for the NL West champion Los Angeles Dodgers last season.
