Six games into the football season, the Howard Payne Yellow Jackets are 5-1, tied for the American Southwest Conference lead at 4-0 and receiving votes in one of the NCAA Division III national polls. Additionally, the Jackets rank among the NCAA D-III leaders in passing and total offense.
DUBLIN – The Early Lady Horns volleyball team beat Dublin 3-2 in a District 8-3A game Tuesday, rallying from a 2-1 deficit by winning the final two sets 25-15 and 15-10. The Lady Horns (9-18 overall, 2-8 in district) will host District 8-3A leader Peaster at noon Saturday.
Adrian Martinez had done just about everything in his first four years of college football except play on a winning team. Those wins are finally coming for him at Kansas State.

STEPHENVILLE – The Brownwood boys’ and girls’ cross country team earned team berths in upcoming Region I-4A meet after their finishes Tuesday at the District 6-4A meet. The Lady Lions finished with 41 points and placed second to Glen Rose’s 38 points in the District 6-4A girls’ team standings.

Bangs will bring a 2-0 district record into Friday’s 7 p.m. game at San Saba. The Armadillos are 5-2 and 1-2.
After a challenging nondistrict schedule, a bye week on Sept. 30 was exactly what the Early Longhorns needed.
Wining four consecutive games, including two in District 5-2A Division I, has resurrected the Bangs Dragons’ season after a 0-2 start. It’s the next four that Bangs head coach Kyle Maxfield is looking at now.
