FRISCO (AP) — Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones hyped a nonexistent quarterback controversy after Cooper Rush won filling in for the injured Dak Prescott last week. Even though Rush did it again in the first NFC East game for the defending division champs, Jones had come back to his senses.

The Class 3A Longhorns twice rallied from a double-digit deficit and took a 48-41 lead late in the game. But the Class 4A Bulldogs had the final rally, and made a two-point conversion to win 49-48. Early is open this week and starts District 2-3A Division II play next Friday, Oct. 7, at Ballinger.
Four members of previous Brownwood Lions teams will be inducted this year into the Gordon Wood Hall of Champions. In addition, the 1970 State Championship football team will be honored. The Hall of Champions missed recognizing the 50th anniversary of this accomplishment in 2020 due to COVID-19.
The Howard Payne Yellow Jackets have beaten the Sul Ross State Lobos three straight times, including last year’s 73-30 rout in Brownwood. But the Lobos have changed their stripes since last year.
Howard Payne lost its national lead in total offense this week, but quarterback Landon McKinney emerged as the NCAA Division III leader in passing yards with 1,356 after the Yellow Jackets beat the East Texas Baptist Tigers 33-21 Saturday at Gordon Wood Stadium.
LONGVIEW -- Mitsue Rodriguez recorded 25 kills and 16 digs as the Howard Payne women’s volleyball team won its second game this season Saturday with a 3-2 American Southwest Conference win over LeTourneau. The Lady Jackets won the fifth and deciding set 19-17.

Twelve-year-old Cohen Loewrigkeit from Brownwood completed the 2022 Xtreem Flattrack Summer racing series this past weekend in Mesquite. Cohen earned the National Championship in three classes: 85cc, 0-249cc, and 250cc.
