When football teams double their win total over their previous season, it’s considered a significant accomplishment. After only three games, the Comanche Indians have tripled their win total over last year, when they finished 1-9 under new head coach Jake Escobar.
Mike Lee Brownwood Bulletin BURNET – The Brownwood Lions officially will receive credit for one victory Friday night – a 33-20 victory over the Burnet Bulldogs in a nondistrict football game between Class 4A Division I teams. But at times, it seemed like the Lions (2-1) were battling three opponents on Friday – themselves after a slow start and two turnovers, the Bulldogs, who stunned Brownwood by taking a 14-0 lead within the first 10 minutes, and finally, the officials, who penalized the Lions 15 times for 155 yards.
GRAPE CREEK – Guy Powell rushed for 188 yards and three touchdowns, and quarterback Kenny Cole passed for 141 yards and three scores as the Bangs Dragons gained their first win this season with a 53-6 decision over the Grape Creek Eagles on Friday night.
COMANCHE – Sophomore Sawyer Wilkerson rushed for 252 yards and two touchdowns and also had a scoring catch Friday night as the Comanche Indians held off a late rally by the Early Longhorns, 49-40, in a nondistrict football game matching a pair of Class 3A Division II teams.
