Brownwood Bulletin The Brownwood Lions will conduct their final tune-up before opening the football regular season with Thursday’s scrimmage at the Lampasas Badgers. The subvarsity teams will scrimmage at 5 p.m., with the varsity to follow about 6:15 p.m.

For the second straight scrimmage, the Brownwood Lions’ defense showed signs of being a stingy unit during the 2021 football season. It was an intersquad scrimmage last weekend, but in Friday’s first test against another team at Gordon Wood Stadium, Brownwood’s defense officially kept the Decatur Eagles out of the end zone.
BANGS – Weldon Wilson and John Mathews, 1960s graduates who comprise the second class of Bangs ISD Hall of Honor inductees, have always been connected by sports. They played football together at Bangs High School for three years, including the 1959 bidistrict championship season in which Wilson was a sophomore and Mathews a freshman.

Shoulder pads and helmets were popping this week as the Priddy Pirates engaged in full-contact running, blocking and tackling drills in football for the first time since 1960. Even though the Pirates are playing sixman football, which is more of a speed and finesse game, the fundamentals of blocking and tackling are important.
