Martha and Orman (Johnny) Myers celebrated 70 years of marriage with their extended family at the Beattie Community Center in Beattie.

The family celebrated early, combining the celebration with a family reunion on June 11. The couple was surrounded by 43 loving family members. The cake was a white iced cake with 70 spelled out in chocolate dipped strawberries, served with strawberries and whipped cream. Their actual anniversary date, on July 26, 2016, was celebrated quietly in the couple’s home.

Martha Rowell grew up in Lakeview community near Richland Springs and attended Richland Springs High School. Orman was born in Rising Star and grew up in the Algerita Community.

Orman, a Bronze Star recipient, courted Martha after returning from WWII.

They married in the First Baptist Church of Richland Springs on July 26,1946. He was 22 and she was 16. They made their home in San Saba, later moving to Midland. After various moves, they built a home in Brownwood.

Martha and Orman are 86 and 92 years young, respectively. Their children include Erma Ellison and spouse Jerry Ellison of Santa Anna; Mike Myers (deceased) and spouse Joyce Myers of Big Spring; Kathy Myers and spouse Ronnie Martin of Comanche; John Myers and spouse Cindy Myers of Columbus, Ohio; Doug Myers and spouse Beth Myers of Comanche; and Robert Myers and spouse Jeanne Myers of Brownwood.

The couple has 13 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
