Jan. 19 was not an ordinary meeting for Brownwood High School’s Family Career and Community Leaders of America and Texas Assoc. of Future Educators meeting. This night was dedicated to one of their many service projects. At this meeting members made pillowcases and blankets for kids in Brown County who have recently been diagnosed with cancer. The students made two pillowcases and six blankets.

“These organizations partnered with Hope from the Heart in Brown County to make sure our kids have a little comfort while dealing with everyday life that goes along with dealing with cancer. This time around was a little different in the fact that one of the kids dealing with cancer is their classmate and friend. Teaching kids to serve people is an asset in life. I truly believe it is better to give than receive and I am trying to teach these kids the same thing,” said Mitzi Cockerham, the Family Consumer Science Teacher, and FCCLA and TAFE Advisor.
