MAY — May Independent School District is set to receive a major donation from a group of major leaguers.
The Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation and the Globe Life and Accident Insurance Company will present a $10,000 grant to May ISD during a Texas Rangers Winter Caravan stop between 1 and 2 p.m. Thursday. The funds will be used to improve existing dugouts and add a softball field scoreboard.
Rangers caravan participants include pitchers Chi Chi Gonzalez and Tom Wilhelmsen, catcher Robinson Chirinos and team radio announcer Matt Hicks. May ISD officials will join Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation Executive Director Karin Morris and the caravan participants in the presentation at May ISD Gymnasium.
May ISD will be the second of three stops for the Rangers caravan that day. The same grant will be presented to the De Leon Sports Association in De Leon between 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. That money will be used to replace damaged scoreboards. The group is salso cheduled to hold a free autograph signing in Abilene at Academy Sports and Outdoors (3950 John Knox Dr.) from 6 to 7 p.m.
The Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation instituted the Grant Program to 2012 as another means to promote the growth and development of youth baseball and softball. As part of its partnership with the Rangers, Globe Life is making a substantial commitment to support youth baseball and softball programs in the Rangers’ five-state territory by joining with the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation in the grant partnership program.
