A 35th District Court jury has heard a day-and-a-half of testimony in the armed robbery trial of Cody Williams, 19, of Elgin, who is accused in the Dec. 31, 2014 robbery of Big G Grocery in Early.
Williams is one of three Eglin residents charged in the robbery. Antonio Vega, 16 — who was 15 at the time of the robbery — has pleaded “true” to participating in the robbery and is awaiting sentencing. Jackie Scott, 20, is awaiting trial.
Prosecutors Chris Brown and Christina Nelson called witnesses beginning Monday afternoon including the four employees who were in the store and police officers.
Prosecutors showed jurors video from several store surveillance cameras that showed two males — one carrying a shotgun — enter the store and commit the robbery. The male with the shotgun fired twice, and the other male struck an employee in the head with brass knuckles.
Authorities believe Vega was the male with the shotgun, Williams was the male with the brass knuckles and that Scott waited in the trio’s car.
Testimony resumes Thursday morning with additional prosecution witnesses.
