The 52nd Lone Star Fair & Expo presented by the Brownwood Jaycees will be held March 18-20 at the Brownwood Coliseum.

The three-day event will feature all-day educational programs about rattlesnakes presented by the Jaycee Rattlesnake Corps., a caricature artist and various food and product booths.

One of the newest acts top this year’s Expo is Lady Houdini — her real name is Kristen Johnson — who will perform an escape act while hanging above a rattlesnake pit, said event chair Amanda Leija.

Houdini is most known for water torture cell escapes.

“We’re really excited to bring Lady Houdini to Brownwood,” Leija said.

Wrights Amusements is the carnival group and will be open that Friday from 3 p.m. to midnight, Saturday from 10 a.m. to midnight and Sunday from noon to 11 p.m.

Tickets will be $5 for adults 13 and over and $2 for children. Doors will open on the 18th from 3 to 8 p.m., the 19th from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and the 20th from noon to 5 p.m.

Other attractions will include shows focused on what to do if you encounter a rattlesnake in the wild, a “Longest Snake Contest and a “drawing contest for youth. Vendors will be on hand selling rattlesnake merchandise, arts and crafts and food.

All day wristbands are currently available for $20 until March 17, and can be purchased at Tahiti Texas (outside Hastings, 600 N. Center Ave.). After March 17, all weekend wristbands will be $25.

“It’s going to be a great weekend filled with fun, food and of course rattlesnakes,” Leija said.
