EARLY — The Early Camber of Commerce announced Wednesday that Texas country music group Casey Donahew Band will headline Early Pioneer Days this fall.
During a special luncheon at the Early’s chamber location, Administrative Coordinator Denise Hudson removed a large sheet of white paper on an easel that unveiled a framed promotional poster of Pioneer Days (Sept. 16-17), featuring Donahew and the opening act, Abilene-base music group Callahan Divide. Both groups will perform on the night of the 17th. Tickets will go on sale Aug. 1.
Shawn Russell, executive director of both the Chamber and Early Economic Development Corporation, thanked the event’s entertainment committee for its work in booking one of Texas’ more popular music groups to the city’s biggest event of the year.
“[The committee] has done so much work by looking at different things we could and other options, and [Donahew’s] name kept coming to the top of the list as to whom we’d want to bring to Early, Texas,” Russell said before a crowd of Early city leaders and business owners.
Donahew, a Burleson native and his band’s lead singer, have released five albums with his band, with its latest being “Standoff” in 2013.
Pioneer Days will include a carnival, an “Iron Man & Woman Contest” and county fait-themed events, among others. It will also feature the Lone Star BBQ Cook-Off, TexasBank Fireworks Show and Chick-fil-A Heartland Mall 5K or Dye Run.
“Pioneer Days was a great success last year, and we’re optimistic that it will do so again this year,” said City Administrator Tony Aaron. “We’ll happy to see people enjoy it.”
Hudson said, “We think it’ll be a lot bigger and better than last year.”
