Brownwood Parks and Recreation officials were pressing ahead Friday with plans to open the Camp Bowie Family Aquatic Center pool Sunday for the first time this summer.
The pool’s opening has been delayed because wet weather late last month and early this month delayed the installation of a liner that won’t crack.
A fax from Parks and Recreation Director David Withers office Friday indicates the pool will be open from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. The pool is normally closed Mondays for maintenance and balancing of chemicals, but the pool will be open this Monday from 10:15 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. and from 2:15 p.m. to 5:45 p.m.
    The pool’s schedule is:
    • Monday (except for this Monday) — closed.
    • Tuesday through Saturday — 10:15 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. and 2:15 p.m. to 5:45 p.m.
    • Sunday — 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The pool was still empty as of Friday afternoon, and workers with All Seasons Foam Coating and Service remained at the pool. The company sprayed on a four-coat Versaflex Polyuria liner.
The 194,000-gallon pool is normally filled by a water line, a process that takes a day to a day and a half, Withers said. To speed the process, firefighters planned to fill the pool by hooking a hose to a nearby hydrant and spraying water into the pool. That process would take four or five hours, Withers said.
After the pool is filled, Parks and Recreation workers will need to get the chemicals balanced, Withers said.
