Participants to a free workout hosted by a local gym this weekend can donate to the families that were involved in the killing of five police officers and injuries to nine others during the tragic shooting in Dallas a couple of weeks ago.

CrossFit Brownwood has created a workout in honor of the five Dallas police officers — Lorene Ahrens, Michael Krol, Michael J. Smith, Brent Thompson and Patrick Zamarripa, all of who were killed by Micah Xavier Johnson on July 7 — at 9 a.m. Saturday at 2900 Stephen F. Austin Dr.

The workout is free to the public. Donations would go toward the Assist The Officer Foundation, which provides assistance to hundreds of officers and their families who were faced with any number of different life-altering situations.

CrossFit, which incorporates exercise elements from high-intensity interval training, plyometrics and powerlifting, among other forms of training, has steadily become a staple training program for the military, law enforcement and firefighters.
