Brownwood police seized 42 grams of methamphetamine and arrested an Abilene man after a traffic stop in north Brownwood Monday afternoon, Police Chief Terry Nichols said.
Police Cpl. Brandon Miller arrested Casey Beabout, 21, on a charge of manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance over 4 grams under 200 grams, a first-degree felony, Brown County Jail records state. Beabout remained jail Tuesday afternoon with bond set at $35,000.
According to a press release from Nichols:
Miller attempted to stop a 2002 Chevrolet pickup for speeding around 4 p.m. in the 1800 block of Belle Plain. The driver and sole occupant, identified as Beabout, made evasive turns in an attempt to avoid being stopped.
Miller eventually made the traffic stop in the 300 block of Hackberry Street. Beabout acted very nervous during the traffic stop, and a set of digital scales with methamphetamine residue was located in Beabout’s pocket. During
questioning, Beabout admitted to having methamphetamine in the vehicle.
A search of the vehicle revealed a bag containing approximately 42 grams of suspected methamphetamine next to the driver’s seat. Narcotics investigators from the Brownwood Police
Department and Brown County Sheriff’s Office responded and assisted with the investigation.
“There is no doubt these drugs were intended to be sold on the streets of Brownwood and Brown County,” Nichols said in the press release. “We will continue to actively work with our law enforcement and community partners to prevent and disrupt the distribution of illegal drugs in our community.”
