The Brownwood Art Association Photo Group’s month-long focus on their members’ specialty continues Saturday as they welcome Mandy Lea of Austin as guest photographer and speaker.
Her program will begin at 10 a.m. at the Art Center, 215 Fisk, in downtown Brownwood. Anyone interested in photography is welcome to attend, and to join the Photo Group.
“Mandy is an accomplished photographer who has recently undertaken a new adventure and lifestyle,” Photo Group member Roger Levesque said.
Lea has given in to her sense of wanderlust and lives on the road, pursuing freelance photography.
“When I was 16 years old, I walked into a camera store in Colorado and asked for a job,” she states on her website. “Despite getting my college degree in Chinese Languages and moving to China, I never left photography — or perhaps photography never left me. Little did I know that would be just the beginning of a 17-year career in photography stores.”
After spending the last 10 years at Precision Camera & Video in Austin, she is now living on the road out of her teardrop camper.
“I have an insatiable desire to explore and document the beauty all around us through photography,” Lea said. “Everyday we experience moments — whether secluded in nature or adventuring with friends. I strive to be present in these moments, to be grateful for each one. My camera allows me to create an artistic vision of these experiences. Through my photography and my journey I hope to inspire each person I meet.”
