MUPRHY — After an extensive search, the City of Murphy has named Brownwood Fire Chief Del Albright as Murphy’s new fire chief, according to a City of Murphy press release.
Albright starts work in Murphy, a Collin County city of about 18,000 northeast of Dallas, on Dec. 5, the press release states. Albright said his last day in Brownwood will be Nov. 21.
Albright, who is also emergency management coordinator in Brownwood, has been fire chief here since 2006. He previously worked as assistant chief and deputy chief at Travis AFB in California.
Albright said Murphy officials were familiar with him through his service at statewide training and meetings, and recruited him after losing their chief to another department.
Albright said the Murphy Fire Department is slightly smaller than Brownwood’s but is “needing growth.” The department has one large fire station and can operate with one station because the city is geographically more compact, Albright said.
“I appreciate my time here in Brownwood,” Albright said. “It was my first chief’s job and lasted 10 years. There were a lot of good improvements and growth. I got a lot accomplished.”
Murphy City Manager Michael Castrol said in the press release he’s confident Albright “is the right person to lead Murphy Fire Rescue and build upon the solid reputation of the department.
“We had an impressive number of extremely qualified candidates. Chief Albright should be justifiably proud that he rose to the top of our list.”
