The Staples office of the president confirmed to the Brownwood Bulletin Monday that Staples will be closing its Brownwood location on Jan. 14.
Store manager Sylvia Diaz declined to comment, saying only that she was "saddened" by the company's decision. She referred the Bulletin to a company public relations number that confirmed the closure.
The office representative speculated but could not confirm that Staples will retain its copy and print services until its closing. She said she expects the store to begin selling its inventory soon.
At the store, employees are referring all questions to the Staples corporate office. The store has printed business cards that read, ‘If you have any questions, please call public rel. 508-253-5000.’

The Wall Street Journal reported days ago that the office supply store’s third-quarter sales fell 4 percent this year. The company has closed 35 North American stores in 2016, with more closings expected.
Staples opened its Brownwood location in 2006.
