The Brownwood Public Library will host author, columnist, radio host and noted outdoorsman Luke Clayton for a Q&A and book signing on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.

Clayton will have autographed copies of his 2015 book “Kill to Grill: The Ultimate Guide to Hog Hunting,” available for purchase.

Brownwood library director Becky Isbell said Clayton’s emphasis, in addition to hunting, is on preparing hogs to eat. “I know hogs are a problem for a lot of people around here,” Isbell said. “I know a lot of times they don’t like to eat them because they’re kind of nasty tasting … But when I spoke with him on the phone, he said a lot of it is just getting them at the right age.”

Isbell said that Clayton prefers an informal, casual format during events. “At another program he did, it ended up just people sitting down and chatting about hunting,” she said. “I think people who enjoy that might really enjoy just talking and sharing stories. I think it should be pretty fun.”

Clayton writes a weekly outdoor column that appears in the Brownwood Bulletin and many other Texas newspapers. He also hosts three different outdoor radio shows each week, including “Outdoors With Luke Clayton and Friends.”

According to Clayton’s website, “Kill to Grill” is “full of useful information and tips about hunting, butchering and even how to make sausage and cured ham as well.”

Isbell said the Brownwood library has many resources for hunters, including an entire section on Texas-specific books that includes Texas hunting guides.

“We’ve got some really great databases,” Isbell added. “Some of those databases, if you’re interested in that, have Guns & Ammo magazine, hunting magazines, different things like that. So there’s a lot of really good resources through there as well.”

Isbell said anyone interested can stop by the library and pick up a bookmark with the database password.

The Brownwood Public Library is located at 600 Carnegie St. in Brownwood.
