Several law enforcement agencies responded to reports of a “large riot,” according to scanner traffic, at Brownwood’s Ron Jackson State Juvenile Correctional Complex around 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
Vehicles from the Brownwood and Early police departments, Brown County Sheriff’s Office, Brownwood Fire Department, Guardian EMS and Department of Public Safety could be seen inside the gated correctional facility. The riot was reported in the complex’s cafeteria, and there were unconfirmed reports of at least one injury.
All law enforcement agencies left the facility within half an hour. The Brown County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that it had assisted with a “matter” but did not provide further details. The Brownwood police and the Ron Jackson complex declined to comment, while Texas Juvenile Justice Department communications director Jim Hurley could not be immediately reached.
