The filing period for the May 5 city and school board election ended Friday with a mayor’s race developing in the City of Brownwood, as well a race for the  Brownwood City Council Ward 1 seat.
    Mayor Stephen Haynes, who filed for re-election, faces a challenge from former 3M plant manager Mike Tittle. In Ward 1, incumbent H.D. Jones is challenged by Patrick McLaughlin IV. McLaughlin had to file as a write-in candidate because he recently moved into the ward.
    Ward 4 council member Draco Miller also filed for re-election and does not have an opponent.

Blanket school board
    In the Blanket school board race, Places 5, 6 and 7 are all contested.
    In Place 5, incumbent Vicky Godfrey Jenkins is challenged by Autumn Hood. In Place 6, Robert Menchaca and Edwin Davis will compete for the seat. In Place 7, incumbent Chris Furry is challenged by Gayla McLaughlin.    

Early City Council
    In the Early City Council race, the seats of Bennie Allcorn, Charles Matlock and B.J. McCullough are open. Allcorn, Matlcok and Leland Acker filed. With three seats open and three filings, the City of Early will not have an election.

Early school board
    In the Early school board race, the seats of Robert Wade (Place 2), Anna Allen (Place 3) and Dale Prochaska are open. Wade and Allen have filed for re-election, and Christina Pruett has filed in Place 6.

Blanket City Council
    In the Blanket City Council race, the seats of B.J. McGinnis and Scotty Isham, and a vacant seat are up. McGinnis and Isham have filed for re-election, and Ben Cody has filed for the vacant seat.
Bangs school board
    In the Bangs school board race, the seats of Steven Fuqua, Justin Duncan and Jerry Roberts are up. Fuqua and Duncan and Lewis Lehman had filed as of late Friday afternoon.

Bangs City Council
    In Bangs, incumbents Toby Bowers, Carroll Wells and Marissa Craddock have filed for re-election and did not face challengers as of late Friday afternoon.
