EARLY— The Early ISD Board of Trustees approved giving staff members up to 10 percent of their annual income if they resign 45 days before the first day of class.

In order to provide a smooth transition, and allow additional time to fill vacant positions, the board approved an incentive package for employees with 10 or more years with Early ISD or those employed under a probationary, term or continuing contracts and hold proper certifications and credentials for their positions to receive 10 percent of their annual wage, with a maximum of $5,000, if they resign 45 days before the start of the 2018-2019 school year.

“This is something we approve yearly, if we decide to do it and this is the first time we’ve done it,” EISD Superintendent Wes Beck said. “It’s never easy to replace anybody. This is a way we feel we can say thank you to our people for being loyal to Early ISD.”

Staff members looking to cash in on the incentive package must issue a letter of resignation addressed to Beck, before 4:30 p.m. Friday, April 13. The employee’s resignation must be voluntary, unconditional and list the effective last duty day of the 2017-2018 school year, unless given an alternative date by the superintendent. Only the first 10 employees to resign are eligible for the incentive package.

“[Ten percent] is just a number we can handle in our budget,” Beck said. “It’s been done all over the place in different schools at different times. We’re not inventing anything here.”
