Two Comanche residents were arrested Friday after a prospective drug deal turned into a robbery and assault last weekend at an Early motel, and a third person is being investigated, police said.
Comanche police arrested David Lugo, 20, and Leonard Morin Jr., 17, on Brown County robbery warrants Friday, Early police said in an email.
Officers responded at 3:30 a.m. Monday to a motel in the 1200 block of C.C. Woodson on a robbery call. The victims, a 35-year-old male and his 16-year-old son, were staying in a room when the 16-year-old received a message from a female who wanted to sell him marijuana. The juvenile initially agreed to the purchase while his father was sleeping.
Police believe three people including Lugo and Morin headed to the Early motel to sell the marijuana. When one of the three told the juvenile they were at the motel, the juvenile said he did not want to buy marijuana.
Two of the suspects forced their way into the room and began assaulting the juvenile and his father. The father was knocked unconscious, and the two grabbed a cell phone and the father’s wallets and left.
Police identified the suspects based on evidence and the victims’ statements. Early detective Brandon McMillian worked closely with Comanche police in identifying the suspects. McMillian and Comanche police executed a search warrant Wednesday at a home on North Travis Street in Comanche, where police recovered evidence and obtained confessions from two of the suspects.
Brown County Justice of the Peace Bryan Thompson signed arrest warrants for the three suspects Friday morning.
