Brown County Commissioners adopted a property tax rate Monday of 61.47 cents per $100 for the 2018-’19 fiscal year.
The rate is down from the current rate of 62.37 cents, but is higher than the effective rate — the rate needed to raise the same amount of revenue as the current fiscal year.
The effective rate is 59.26 cents.
In other business Monday, commissioners approved the purchase of an upgrade to courthouse security for $64,497 from Guardian Security Solutions.
The courthouse security committee recommended the purchase, which includes 34 cameras that will be placed inside and outside the courthouse, Sheriff Vance Hill said.
Cameras will also be placed in the courtrooms.
Monitors will be placed in the courthouse security office, and the cameras can also be monitored at the sheriff’s office, Hill said.
The purchase also includes upgrades to panic alarms and three new smoke detectors.
