A Brownwood woman is charged with capital murder in the death of her 2-year-old son, police said.
Vanessa Narvaez, 21, was arrested Monday on a charge of capital murder of a child under 10 and remained jailed Tuesday, jail records state.
No bond has been set.
According to an email from Brownwood Police Chief Terry Nichols:
Police, firefighters and Lifeguard Ambulance were dispatched at noon to an apartment at the Villas Apartments, 4235 South U.S. 377, for a medical emergency involving a child.
The child was transported to Brownwood Regional Medical Center in critical condition with head injuries inconsistent with information provided by the mother at the scene, Nichols said via email.
The child was flown to Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth. The child died during surgery Monday evening.
Nichols declined further comment, saying it is an ongoing investigation by Brownwood police, the Texas Rangers and Child Protective Services.
