Law enforcement officers from several agencies served a search warrant Thursday afternoon at the Pink Flamingo game room, 1404 Third St., in Brownwood, as part of an investigation into illegal gambling establishments, police said.
The Brownwood Police Department, Brown County Sheriff’s Office, Brown County Attorney’s Office, City of Brownwood Code Enforcement and the State of Texas Comptroller Office participated in the search warrant, Brownwood Police Chief Terry Nichols said via email.
According to Nichols’ email:
Officers executed the evidentiary search warrant, which was the result of an investigation into illegal gambling establishments using sweepstakes, gaming machines and
music download schemes in an attempt to circumvent State of Texas gambling statutes.
The owners and operators of all gaming rooms in Brownwood have been notified in writing by Nichols, Sheriff Vance Hill and County Attorney Shane Britton that these types of games are considered gambling under the State statute.
After receiving complaints from citizens
about these businesses, law enforcement has been conducting investigations, one of which led to
the search warrant at the Pink Flamingo.
The investigation into the Pink Flamingo as well as other gaming establishments in Brownwood
is ongoing. No arrests were made at this time, but criminal charges are anticipated.
