A Bangs man remained jailed Monday in lieu of bonds totaling $47,500 after a police pursuit Sunday afternoon led to his arrest on multiple charges.
The pursuit, which began in the 100 block of North Fisk, ended in an alley in the 1900 block of Brook when Daniel Mendieta crashed his vehicle, police said.
Mendieta then fled on foot before being arrested, police said.
Mendieta, 31, was booked on charges of evading arrest with a vehicle, evading arrest, possession of a controlled substance, evidence tampering, possession of drug paraphernalia and on a bond forfeiture warrant for possession of a controlled substance, Brown County Jail records state.
According to an email from Brownwood police:
Officers were dispatched at 4:20 p.m. to the 100 block of Market Place on a report of a wanted person in the area.
The wanted person, identified as Mendieta, was located and a traffic stop was initiated in the 100 block of Fisk. Mendieta fused to stop for officers and drove throughout various roads and alleyways of Brownwood until crashing his vehicle in an alleyway in the 1900 block of Brook Lane, police alleged.
Mendieta then fled on foot southbound for several blocks before being arrested. While running on foot, Mendieta threw various items consistent with illegal narcotics into the backyard of a residence, police alleged. These items were recovered.
The Brown County Sheriff’s Office and Texas Department of Public Safety assisted the police department.
