The Brownwood Rotary Club is preparing for an evening of music, dancing and fun: the club’s first Dancing for the Stars fundraiser, which will be from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, April 5, at the Brownwood Country Club.

Tickets are $100, and 100 percent of the proceeds will go to the local charities sponsored by the Brownwood Rotary Club. Tickets can be purchased at

Hometown dancers will compete to raise money for charity. Funds raised will benefit the Brownwood Education Foundation, the Early Independent School District, CASA in the Heart of Texas, The Ark, Meals on Wheels and ongoing Rotary projects including college scholarships for local students and student dictionaries.

Community leaders have been selected for the competition, with dancers paired with either a professional dance instructor from Patty Harper Dance Studio in Abilene, spouse or another partner of the dancer’s choice.

The dancing couples are Steve Baker and Patty Harper Dance instructor Tracy Holmes, Renee and Landry Blackstock, Kendra and Russ Bryan, Harold Hogan and daughter Mashari Hogan, Kim and Blake Sanford and Laura and Joe Tilley.

People “vote” for the dancing couples by contributing money in the dancers’ names. The champion is the couple who raises the most money, not necessarily the best dancers.

This is not really a dance competition. It’s about putting on a show, having fun and raising money for some great causes.

For your $100 tickets, your evening includes a meal of London broil or teriyaki chicken, dessert, complimentary red or white wine and a cash bar.

One dollar equals one vote. Votes can be cast at the event or online at

Rex Tackett will be the master of ceremonies.
