NORTHPORT, Maine — Maine State Police arrested a former Brownwood man Sunday in connection with sex crimes allegedly committed in Texas, WGME-TV of Maine reported on its website.
Troopers arrested 45-year-old James Helms at a house he had been staying, the station reported.
Helms has been living in Maine for the past year and has been working as a handyman in the mid-coast.
Troopers said Helms fled Brownwood last year as Texas Rangers were investigating the sex crimes there, the station reported.
Troopers said three cell phones from Helms were seized and they will review them for any connection to the Texas crimes or new sexual images involving children downloaded while he has been in Maine, the station reported.
Helms is being held in Maine on a fugitive from justice charge and will face the sex crimes once he is returned to Texas, the station reported.
