While the Brownwood Lions will be preparing later for their Oct. 25 game with Stephenville, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes teams of both schools are already preparing.
The FCA teams are taking orders for T-shirts, and orders are due by Oct. 1. Orders can be turned in at the front desks of Brownwood High School and Brownwood Middle School, and in the Brownwood High School athletic office, Brownwood Area FCA Director Kurt Newton said.
Proceeds from the T-shirts, which cost $15 each and have FCA images and slogans, will go to the FCA huddles of in Brownwood and Stephenville. The money will be used to buy snacks to send students to FCA camp, Newton said.
Fund-raising will continue through the first half of the game. FCA team members on both sides will pass buckets and collect donations from fans in a friendly competition. Whichever side collects the most money will win a plaque to keep for the rest of the year.
Proceeds from collections at the game will also go to the FCA huddles for snacks and camp.
Fields of Faith
Students from the Brownwood Area FCA (Brown, Coleman, Comanche, Mills, McCullough, Callahan, Mason) will join thousands of other youth on athletic fields across the nation Wednesday, Oct. 9, to share their Christian faith with fellow students during the16th annual national FCA Fields of Faith event.
This rapidly growing, interdenominational outreach event will be held at more than 500 locations throughout the nation.
While many Christian rallies are anchored to an entertainer or professional speaker, FCA’s Fields of Faith is structured as a student-to-student ministry. Peers invite their own classmates and teammates to meet on their school’s athletic field to hear fellow students share their testimonies, challenge them to read the Bible and to come to faith in Jesus Christ.
“It is always wonderful to see so many students coming together from across the Brownwood Area FCA’s counties to worship, honor and share about Jesus Christ,” Newton said.
“It is simply amazing at what God does in so many lives when hearts are surrendered and turned to God’s Word and his son, Jesus Christ.”
This will be the 13th Fields of Faith event for the Brownwood Area FCA. Last year, approximately 3,000 students and supporters attended at Gordon Wood Stadium.
Since the beginning of Fields of Faith in 2004, more than a million people have joined the movement. In 2018, more than 198,000 students gathered on 521 fields to participate in the event.
While Fields of Faith has its roots with FCA leadership, the event is designed to include multiple national Christian organizations, local churches and ministries. A local leadership team will determine the program of each Fields of Faith event.
