The Brownwood Art Association Photo Group is in the final stages of preparation for the Eighth Annual Members Exhibit.
The exhibit will be open and free to the general public Oct. 3-27 at the Art Center, 215 Fisk Ave. Hours will be announced at a later date.
The Brownwood Art Association will host an opening reception of the exhibit as part of the ongoing First Thursday Event from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 3 at the Art Center.
In addition to displaying the photographers artwork, the Photo Group will be announcing the Photographer of the Year.
There will be an opportunity for all to vote for their favorite image for Peoples Choice Award.
The Annual Photographer of the Year is selected from 12 monthly winners and some 200 plus submitted photos.
The monthly winner and the Photographer of the Year are voted on and chosen by the members of the Photo Group by secret ballot.
The winner will receive an engraved crystal award and a one year membership in the Brownwood Art Association.
This year Pat Coursey was selected as the BAAPG Photographer of the Year 2019.
The exhibit will feature local photographers that are members of the Photo Group and fine art photographs.
The theme fo this years exhibit is “open” for any subject. Photographs will be available for purchase, with a portion of the sale being donated to the Brownwood Art Association.
The Photo Group is an informal organization consisting of members interested in the art of photography and to promoting the visual arts in our community.
Membership is open to anyone having an interest in photography or just wanting to learn more about photography.
There are no dues or any special requirement to join the group. All that is necessary is to attend one of our meetings and let us have some contact information and you are automatically a member.
Several years ago a mentoring program was started to aid those wanting basic instructions on operating cameras and learning various software programs.
In addition to the mentoring program we have monthly competitions, annual exhibit, participate in the Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit (Digital Photo Shootout and Free Family Portraits for Family Services), and several photo excursions throughout the year.
Monthly meetings are held at 6 p.m. the second Thursday of each month at the Art Center, 215 Fisk Ave.
There’s usually a short business meeting to discuss plans and/or upcoming events, a showing of photographs for the monthly competition of selecting a “Photographer of the Year,” and open discussions/critiques.
