A 62-year-old Brownwood man is free on $100,000 bond after being arrested on a warrant for continuous sexual abuse of a child, Brownwood police and Brown County Jail records state.


Royce Christopher turned himself in Tuesday at the Brown County Jail, police said.


According to an email from Brownwood police:


In April of this year, Brownwood police received a Child Protective Services report of an outcry of sexual abuse from a female juvenile. The report indicated the female was sexually touched by a family member at various times in her life during a seven-year period.


An investigation was commenced by the Criminal Investigations Division where evidence was gathered, and interviews were conducted. At the conclusion of the investigation, a warrant was sought against Christopher for continuous sexual abuse of a child; victim under 14 – forcible fondling.


Other family members told Detective Brian Rice the suspect made admissions about his conduct, Rice stated in an affidavit filed in Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace Doug Hurt’s office.


Rice spoke with the suspect, who said he was sorry, knows right from wrong and wanted to get help, Rice’s affidavit states.
