A Brownwood man who had been off parole for less than six months was arrested Wednesday night on drug charges, police said.

Jeremy Wayne Peel, 23, was booked into the Brown County Jail on charges of manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana over 2 ounces under 4 ounces, jail records state.

Officer Troy Grusendorf was on patrol on Vincent at 10:42 p.m. when a Mercury Marquis attracted his attention, Grusendorf’s report states.

Grusendorf turned around to get behind the fast-moving car, which ran stop signs, turned onto Avenue G and skidded to an abrupt stop in the 700 block.

The driver exited the car and ran toward a house, then began walking as Grusendorf approached.

Grusendorf told the man he stopped him because he saw him get out of the car, run toward the house and transition to a walking pace in an effort to remain undetected.

The man told Grusendorf he didn’t know what the officer was talking about, Grusendorf’s report states. The man said Grusen-dorf hadn’t seen him get driving any vehicle.

Cpl. Johnny Jackson arrived as backup, shined his flashlight inside the Mercury and saw marijuana in a Lipton tea box in the front seat, Grusendorf’s report states.

The officers seized 3.3 ounces of marijuana and 2.87 grams of methamphetamine from the car, the report states.
