Bulletin Staff Report
As accumulations mounted in Brownwood around noon Thursday, it truly was a white Christmas… Eve. Freezing cold and strong north winds created an atmosphere of Christmas here as areas north and west of Brownwood were hit by a snow storm that closed Interstate 20 at Colorado City and U.S. Highway 84 at Snyder due to accumulation of snow.
Senior Trooper Sparky Dean of the Texas Department of Public Safety in Abilene said Thursday that many roads and highways in that area were impassible. The DPS received numerous reports of stranded motorists the morning due to snowy, windy conditions the morning after high temperatures had soared in the 70s.
Motorists were requested to delay travel until roadways have been cleared and weather conditions improve, expected today as temperatures rise well above freezing.
Brownwood residents were greeted by thick clumps of snow Thursday morning, which, at noon Thursday was still blowing in flurries.
