Bulletin Staff Report
Brown County residents have one more day — and a partial one at that — to literally wrap up their Christmas shopping before Santa Claus makes his annual trip tonight.
Many governmental offices — municipal, county and state — are taking a long holiday that began Saturday, with offices scheduled to reopen on Wednesday. Only emergency services will be operating, and those are on holiday schedules. Tuesday is a federal holiday, affecting the U.S. Post Office and other agencies.
The Brownwood Bulletin will publish a Christmas Day newspaper, but its offices will be closed on Tuesday. Deadlines for the Tuesday morning edition are being moved forward today.
In observance of the Christmas holidays, Brownwood City Hall will be closed today and Tuesday and sanitation collection dates this week are being altered, Tim Airheart, assistant director of public works, announced.
Residents with blue or green carts will have the following collection days:
Monday’s route will be collected on Wednesday. Tuesday’s route will be collected on Thursday. Thursday’s route will be collected on Friday. Friday’s route will be collected on Saturday.
The Recycling Center and Landfill will be closed today and Tuesday and will reopen on Wednesday.
Christmas trees may be taken to the Recycling Center for recycling, or taken to the collection site under the Austin Avenue overpass at Brady Avenue and Avenue A through Jan. 15.
Trees must be free of lights, decorations and stands and should not be wrapped in plastic or netting.
They will be recycled into mulch.
The Recycling Center now accepts cooking oil. Residents are asked not to pour it down drains or place in dumpsters.
