Bulletin Staff Report

One blood donor can save up to three lives with one simple donation. On Sept. 6, that simple donation will benefit someone Early residents probably know - W.G. “Jack” Ferguson.

The former mayor of Early is undergoing treatment for cancer.

Ferguson served as mayor from May 1989 to May 1991. He was a city council member in 1988.

To help with the financial expenses of his cancer treatment, United Blood Services will make a monetary donation to pay a portion of Ferguson’s medical bills. The amount will be based on the number of blood donations made on Saturday, Sept. 6, at the Early First Baptist Church.

The hours of the blood drive will be from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., and donors should go to the church’s fellowship hall.

To make an appointment for this drive, go online to www.bloodhero.com. Enter sponsor code “earlybaptist.” Donors may also go to the church office to make an appointment, or call 646-6596.

Every donor will get a free T-shirt and also be registered into a monthly drawing for a chance to win a $300 gift card from Wal-Mart.

To donate, you must be age 16 or older, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health. Donors who are 16 will need parental permission, and permission slips will be available at the drive. Additional height and weight requirements apply to donors age 16 to 22.
