Temperatures may be skyrocketing, but one thing some at-risk Brown-wood residents won’t have to sweat over this summer is how to pay their electricity bills.
Thanks to a partnership between TXU Energy and Good Samaritan Ministries, low-income customers will be able to find bill-payment assistance relief through the TXU Energy Aid program.
In 2008, TXU Energy will provide the partnering organization with $12,000 to help low-income customers in need of temporary bill-payment assistance through its TXU Energy Aid program. The program, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, is the largest bill-payment assistance program among electricity companies in the nation.
Since 1983, the program has provided more than $45 million in bill-payment assistance, helping more than 320,000 customers.
Good Samaritan Execu-tive Director Angelia Bostick accepted the donation on behalf of the Ministry and thanked TXU Energy for its contribution.
“We are so grateful for TXU Energy’s continuous support and involvement in our community,” said Bostick. “Good Samaritan Ministries, and the people of Brown County, are very thankful for this generous donation.”
The $12,000 contribution is a combination of customer and employee donations from the Brownwood community. For every $1 donated, TXU Energy contributes approximately $5 and returns 100 percent of the funds to the local community in which it was given.
“We believe in giving back to organizations that exist to make life a better place for those in need of assistance, and as a result we have been able to help many customers,” said Kim Campbell, manager of customer advocacy for TXU Energy. “Our TXU Energy Aid program has worked hard to help these customers, and it was made possible by the efforts from a group like Good Samaritan Ministries.”
TXU Energy customers who want to make a contribution to help others in their community can contact the TXU Energy Aid contribution line at 1-877-281-6359. Customers can also make a one-time contribution or a
recurring pledge to the TXU Energy Aid program by completing the information on the back of their monthly bill or when making payments
In addition to the TXU Energy Aid program, TXU Energy also voluntarily provides an approximate 10 percent, year-round price discount to eligible low-income customers through its TXU Energy Low-Income Assistance program.
During the summer months, TXU Energy has declared a moratorium on disconnections and will provide flexible payment plans for customers
designated as low-income, ill or disabled or who are at least 62. To avoid disconnection due to non-payment, customers can contact TXU Energy at (800) 242-9113 and ask for a deferred payment plan.
