Local volunteers are seeking donations and contributions for an auction and benefit for the West Texas Rehab Center.

Though for the past several years the volunteers in Brown County have hosted an auction and benefit, this year’s event is a slightly different venture. Planned for Aug. 6, a Wednesday, at the Adams Street Community Center, this year’s event will start off with a silent auction, in the morning, then, through the lunch hour, there will be a live auction.

The West Texas Rehab gang will serve a grilled hamburger lunch, starting at about 11:30 a.m. There’s no set price for the meal, but there will be a bucket for donations.

“But,” said Marjorie Cloud, donor relations director for West Texas Rehab in Abilene, “People won’t have to skip lunch to get to the auction, they’ll be able to do both within their own comfort zone.

Since 1953, The West Texas Rehab’s mission has been to improve the quality of life for every disabled child and adult who seeks its services - regardless of their financial circumstance. With headquarters in San Angelo and Abilene, people throughout West and Central Texas are able to be served.

“Everyone who supports the Rehab helps in some way,” Cloud said. “The dollars raised by volunteers help provide a wide array of patient care and/or the many, many things the Rehab can do to improve the quality of life for the disabled.”

The merchandise already planned for the auction block includes such things as a one-night stay at the LaQuinta Inn in Fredericksburg; charcoal grill; decorative ceramic urn; pallet of landscape stone, portable ag sprayer, hand-crafted rocking horse, car washes and gift certificates.

Heading up this year’s local round-up program are Seale Cutbirth, Calvin Fryar, Evy Winn and Rex Tackett, along with the Pecan Valley Kiwanis Club lending a helping-hand. Local support sponsors who have partnered with the Rehab for Round-Up 2008 include Citizens National Bank, Dr Pepper, Wendlee Broadcas-ting/KXYL and KOXE.

Corporate friends of Rehab that have stepped forward as major Round-Up sponsors are Area Farm Credit Associations, Family PowerSports, Group IV-Member Owned Electric Cooperatives, Lone Star Beef Processors, Strong-point/Pied Piper Pet & Wildlife and Wrangler. Heartland Alliance of America/Farm & Ranch Healthcare continues as the Rehab’s Chuck Wagon sponsor. Additional sponsor support includes A-B Distributing, First AG Credit, Mueller Metals, Walco International, and TXP, Inc.
