A Fort Worth firm has plans for a development that is expected to bring a Walgreen’s store and an Arby’s restaurant to Brownwood, Interim City Manager and Director of Economic Development James Campbell said.
Campbell said the OMNI Group, Inc. is planning a development for the two businesses near the traffic “T.” Campbell said the development will be adjacent to an extension of McCulley Street that will run from Romines to Main.
Brownwood City Council members ratified action Tuesday by the Brownwood Economic Development Corp. in which the the BEDC will contribute up to $300,000 for a 700-foot street extension.
As part of the McCulley street project, the entire street will be rebuilt, Campbell said.
Also Tuesday, council members agreed to solicit bids for a property swap that would give the city right-of-way needed for the street extension. The city will seek a swap for property it owns at 501 E. Commerce, the former site of an AutoZone store.
OMNI Group representatives were unavailable for comment Tuesday.
The Walgreen’s and Arby’s project has been in the works since September 2006, Campbell said.
