While area residents are filled with the spirit of the holidays, Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce officials want to start planning special activities - for 2009. A planning session to consider what more might be done to celebrate Christmas next year will be held Tuesday afternoon.
“We want to get the ball rolling, and get people involved,” Emily Crawford, tourism director for the Brownwood Chamber, said Friday. “We believe there is more holiday potential that can be unwrapped with some creativity and teamwork.”
Crawford said chamber officials hope the meeting, scheduled from 4 to 5 p.m. Tuesday at the chamber of commerce board room at 600 E. Depot, will be a springboard to a variety of events. Some of those might include a trail of lights at Riverside Park, a revival of the Christmas tour of homes and more activities in the downtown business district.
“We hope a meeting like this will encourage and inspire others to think about what can be done,” Crawford said. “There won’t be a presentation at the meeting, just bring your ideas, creativity and holiday spirit.”
Crawford said the meeting about possible activities for December 2009 is being held now so ideas that might be on people’s minds during the holiday season won’t be lost after Christmas is over.
“It’s hard to start talking about Christmas events during February,” Crawford. said.
Anyone who is unable to attend the meeting is urged to call Donnette at 646-9535 with contact information.
