Three local organizations are planning “A Day of Remembrance” on Sept. 11, Patriot Day, with ceremonies held at the Margaret and Stuart Coleman Plaza near The Depot Civic and Cultural Center.
The events will be sponsored by the Heart of Texas VFW Post 3278, the ladies Auxiliary and the Military and Family Support Group, Auxiliary spokeswoman Cheryl Campbell said.
A display and an American flag for everyone to sign will be available at the plaza from 7:30 a.m. until 1 p.m., she said. The public is welcome to bring flowers or a remembrance to the plaza.
A remembrance ceremony will begin at approximately 12:10 p.m. Campbell said those who cannot attend or visit the plaza or attend the ceremony can pause for a few minutes sometime that morning or around noon to remember all those who died, their families and everyone whose life was changed by the 2001 attacks.
Area residents are also reminded to fly their American flags on Sept. 11.
“We would also like everyone to remember how this tragedy pulled America together and created a unity that we had not seen for many years,” Campbell said. “Let this be a reminder to us that we are one nation under God, and that we can accomplish anything if we look toward Him for our strength.”
