Howard Payne University’s Homecoming celebration will be held Oct. 26-28 using the theme “HPU All-Stars,” and a total of 30 events are being planned for that weekend.

The HPU School of Music will present the musical “Bye Bye Birdie,” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, Friday, Oct. 26, and Saturday, Oct. 27, in the HPU Theatre. A final performance is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets for the play can be reserved by calling the HPU box office at 649-8516. Tickets are $5 adults and $4 for students.

The Golden Graduate Luncheon will honor 1957 graduates with commemorative diplomas on Friday at noon in Bullion Suites, Mabee Center. The Alumni Awards Banquet will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, in the Beadel Dining Hall, Mabee Center, during which the 2007 homecoming honorees will be recognized. Doors will open at 6:40 p.m. Homecoming guests from the Classes of 2000 through 2007 are invited to attend Jacket Java, a complimentary coffee break, at 8:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, in Fambrough’s Grill, Mabee Center. An Alumni and University-wide golf tournament, organized by the student fraternity Phi Kappa Chi and sponsored by Citizens National Bank, will be held at 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at the Brownwood Country Club. The HPU Homecoming Parade will travel through downtown at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27. The parade will wind its way from the coliseum, past the courthouse, down Center Avenue and end at Fisk Street on the HPU campus. The university-wide picnic, Picnic on the Plaza, catered by Underwood’s Cafeteria and Sodexho campus catering, will be held following the parade. Parade winners will be announced, while barbecue, rolls and cobbler are being served. The picnic begins at 11:30 a.m. at the Muse Mall and Plaza. The HPU Yellow Jacket football team will play Louisiana College at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at Gordon Wood Stadium. Following the football game, three athletes will be inducted in the Sports Hall of Fame at the annual banquet beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the Bullion Suites in the Mabee Center. The weekend will conclude with an alumni-led worship service featuring Dr. Robert Smith st 9 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, in the chapel.
