Bulletin Staff Report

The Brownwood community will welcome dove hunters to the area with an “open season lunch” on Saturday, Sept. 1, officials of the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce announced.

The event will be held on the opening weekend of dove season in this region, Emily Crawford, tourism and marketing manager of the Brownwood Chamber, said. The event will be held from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at the Brownwood Coliseum, and will feature a fried catfish meal with all the fixings, prepared by the chamber staff and the organization’s Ambassasdors.

Door prizes — five guns — will be given away during the lunch, and one will be awarded every 30 minutes, Crawford said. Other door prizes will also be given away.

Crawford said the idea came in response to property owners telling chamber officials that the community needs to show more appreciation to the dove hunters who come to this area each year.

“Hundreds of dove hunters will be in Brownwood for opening weekend of dove season, Sept. 1-2, and will spend thousands of dollars in the local community,” Crawford said.

Businesses are invited to have a booth to promote their products or services to the out-of-town hunters. No fee is required to have booth space, but each exhibitor must donate a door prize with a retail value of at least $75.

Tickets for the lunch include the full meal, drink and a chance to win a gun. Tickets cost $10 for adults and $6 for children 12 and under. Additional chances to win a gun will also be sold for $5 each.
