Special to the Bulletin
Some changes are in the works for the West Texas Rehabilitation Center’s Round-Up for Rehab special event. The annual fund-raiser, set this year for Aug. 6, a Wednesday, is moving to the Adams Street Community Center.
“This is really a neat event, something to provide the Brownwood and Early area folks a fun day of activities,” said Marjorie Cloud, director of donor relations for the West Texas Rehabilitation Center in Abilene.
A silent auction, beginning at 10 a.m. and with “something of interest for everyone” will kick off the special event, Cloud said. Auction items will vary from baked goods, arts and crafts, agricultural items to general merchandise, and all will be displayed and ready for bidding. From 12:30 to 1 p.m., a live auction of various items will be offered.
Other activities include a Heartland Cruiser Car Show and a live radio remote program with KOXE. Starting at 11:30 a.m., everyone is invited as the Rehab’s guest for hamburgers cooked by the chuck wagon crew. For those on their lunch hour, the event is planned so they are able to enjoy a meal while supporting the Center.
Since its inception in 1960, Round-Up for Rehab has provided more than $10 million in donations to helping those who have turned to the Center for assistance. As a private, non-profit organization, the Rehab is dedicated to providing outpatient care each year to over 23,000 children and adults, regardless of their financial circumstances, Cloud said. Numerous local area residents have utilized the Rehab over the years to improve the quality of their lives.
Heading up this year’s Round-Up Program are Seale Cutbirth, Calvin Fryar, Evy Winn and Rex Tackett, and again this year, the Pecan Valley Kiwanis Club will be lending a helping-hand. Local support sponsors who have partnered with the Rehab for Round-Up 2008 include Citizens National Bank, Dr Pepper, KXYL and KOXE.
Corporate friends of Rehab that have stepped forward as major Round-Up sponsors are Family PowerSports, Group IV-Member Owned Electric Cooperatives, Lone Star Beef Processors, Strongpoint/
Pied Piper Pet and Wildlife and Wrangler. Heartland Alliance of America/Farm and Ranch Healthcare continues as the Rehab’s Chuck Wagon sponsor. Additional sponsor support includes A-B Distributing, First AG Credit, Mueller Metals, Walco International and TXP Inc.
“We really hope folks will mark those calendars and plan to attend for a great time and become a part of the Rehab’s philosophy of ‘neighbor-helping neighbor,’” Cloud said.
